Entry Requirement
If you are travelling to the Faroe Islands for training at Atlantic Airways Aviation Academy, please check the entry requirements that apply to your nationality and travel route before departure.
The Faroe Islands are part of the Kingdom of Denmark, but are not part of the EU or the Schengen Area. Entry requirements may therefore differ from those for Denmark and other Schengen countries.
Nordic citizens
Citizens of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden may enter, stay, study and work in the Faroe Islands without a visa or residence permit.
A passport is not normally required for Nordic citizens, but we recommend travelling with valid identification, particularly when connecting through other countries.
Visa-free travellers
Citizens of countries that are visa-exempt for Denmark can normally also visit the Faroe Islands without a visa.
Your passport should generally:
- be valid for at least three months after your planned departure;
- have been issued within the last 10 years.
Visa-free stays in the Schengen Area, Greenland and the Faroe Islands may generally be limited to a combined 90 days within any 180-day period.
If you require a visa
If your nationality requires a visa, your visa must be specifically valid for the Faroe Islands.
A standard Schengen or Danish visa does not automatically allow entry to the Faroe Islands.
If you travel via Copenhagen or another Schengen airport, you may also need a Schengen visa for the journey.
Residence permit holders
If you hold a valid physical residence permit or residence card issued by Denmark or another EU/Schengen country, you may generally enter the Faroe Islands without a separate visa.
Please carry both your passport and residence card when travelling.
A Faroese residence permit does not automatically give you the right to enter Denmark or other Schengen countries, so additional documentation may be required when travelling via the Schengen Area.
Entry/Exit System (EES)
Non-EU/EEA/Swiss travellers may encounter the EU Entry/Exit System when travelling through Denmark or another Schengen country.
This may involve registration of passport details, a facial image and fingerprints.
Where to apply
Visa applications for the Faroe Islands are normally submitted through a Danish embassy, consulate or another representation handling applications on behalf of Denmark.
