Atlantic Airways Environmental & ESG Policy

Purpose

1. Direction & Alignment

  • Target: Align our decarbonisation pathway with EU Fit for 55, ICAO long-term goals, and IATA commitments toward Net Zero by 2050.
  • System: Operate an ISO 14001-aligned environmental management framework for Atlantic Airways Aviation Academy that drives continual improvement, risk control, and corrective action.
  • Integration: Embed ESG criteria in strategy, risk, investment, fleet, network planning, and procurement.

2. Emissions & Operational Excellence

  • Compliance: Meet ICAO CORSIA for international flights and EU ETS (incl. MRV) for applicable operations.
  • Efficiency Goal: Improve fleet fuel efficiency and operational performance year-on-year through aircraft renewal, optimised flight planning, single-engine taxi, and continuous descent approaches.
  • Digital Enablement: Deploy data and digital tools to plan, monitor, and verify emissions reductions and to identify new savings opportunities.

3. Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) – Build the Ecosystem

  • Adoption Goal: Set progressive SAF uptake milestones as supply develops; publish annual progress.
  • Regional Development: Collaborate with Nordic partners, suppliers, and authorities to support and develop regional SAF production, logistics, and offtake agreements.
  • Transparency: Report SAF contribution to lifecycle emissions reduction.

4. Resource Efficiency & Circularity

  • Waste Goal: Reduce waste intensity and phase out single-use plastics where feasible; expand reuse and recycling.
  • Utilities Goal: Lower energy and water intensity across offices, hangars, and airport facilities; accelerate digital, paperless workflows.
  • Circular Procurement: Apply circularity principles in sourcing, maintenance, and end-of-life handling.

5. Faroese Nature & Biodiversity

  • Protection Goal: Prevent pollution and manage noise to protect local ecosystems; conduct environmental impact assessments for new projects.
  • Stewardship: Support and develop community-led conservation and promote sustainable tourism that safeguards Faroese nature and culture.

6. People, Safety & Communities

  • Workplace Goal: Ensure a safe, healthy, respectful workplace; promote diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Capability: Provide ESG and sustainability training; support and develop employee skills for a low-carbon transition.
  • Community Partnership: Invest in education, local employment, and cultural initiatives across the Faroe Islands.

7. Governance, Transparency & Academy

  • Compliance: Uphold all applicable ESG regulations, including EU ETS and CORSIA.
  • Reporting: Maintain an ESG reporting framework with public KPIs (emissions, fuel efficiency, energy, waste, and social metrics).
  • Academy Goal: Ensure the Atlantic Airways Aviation Academy operates under an ISO 14001-aligned framework—measuring impacts, closing gaps, and sharing best practices.

8. Engagement & Collaboration

  • Internal: Run regular ESG awareness and skills programmes for employees.
  • External: Support and develop partnerships with industry bodies, research institutions, airports, suppliers, and governments to accelerate innovation and policy that enable sustainable aviation.

9. Targets, Milestones & Review

  • Set & Publish: Define milestones consistent with Net Zero by 2050 and the EU Fit for 55 trajectory; review annually.
  • Benchmark: Compare performance with aviation best practice and peer airlines; adjust plans accordingly.
  • Improve: Integrate new technologies and solutions; communicate progress and challenges openly.
